🎨 Did you know @mcguffeyartcenter offers free tours to area organizations? Schools, families, friends, and clubs are invited to learn more about the process of creating art. Each tour is unique in that groups plan scheduled visits to meet three specific artists in their studios. Tours are set up for 1 1/4 hours of time, as each artist is visited in rotation. 🍷We just love introducing you to some of the unique hidden gems of the area! We recently visited @montifalcovineyard, located in Ruckersville (less than a 30 min drive from downtown Charlottesville), and were so pleased to discover this quaint, boutique winery with relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

We chatted with owner and winemaker Justin, enjoying a flight of reds and a cheese sampling, sitting just steps from the property’s vines. Justin’s passion for wine comes from his time spent in the San Francisco Bay area, and is inspired by his visits to France and Switzerland. Montifalco is modeled after multi generational family farm wineries of the European Old World, and offers an intimate experience at his own home! One of the most charming features of the winery is a newly constructed “green house”, a small light-filled tasting space perfect for those chillier days. But if it’s warm out, the “backyard” has multiple inviting seating sets facing the vines and stage. While there, we enjoyed live music by @michaelrclem (of popular Northern Virginia based 1990s band Eddie from Ohio!). With many incredible vineyards along the @monticellowinetrail, Montifalco is a unique experience, and certainly worth a visit. Sip handcrafted wines grown and made on property amongst the geese, vines, and live music, while chatting with the winemakers themselves in this gorgeous setting.

🍜 Tired of your usual lunch spot? @badluckramen, located south of downtown Charlottesville in the @ixartpark inside of North American Sake Brewery, is a must try if you’re looking for something unique. Bad Luck offers a laid back cozy ambiance with cute retro Japanese vibes that may give you the sense you’re in an entirely different city. Grab a booth, or pull up a pillow to one of their low table window seats. We ordered their 3G Teriyaki Rice Bowl, and Nas Original Ramen with a flight of sake from @northamericansake (Virginia’s first and only sake brewery). Our friendly server walked us through the different sake flavors and processes behind them, while we thoroughly enjoyed their delicious rice and noodle dishes. The key to their exceptional, rich ramen is the 18 hour bone broth made in house, along with fresh ingredients and perfectly cooked noodles. While you’re there you can peek inside of their sake brewing facility, and before you leave, grab a “bad luck” fortune from the fortune kitty machine!
